In Karnataka, reports show a steady rise in elderly abandonment by children over the past five years (2020–2024). Hospitals and old-age homes have seen hundreds of such cases, with over 150 seniors abandoned in Belagavi alone and around 800+ cases recorded in Bengaluru Urban under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. The state government has begun taking legal action and cancelling property transfers of those found guilty.
